The counting of votes for the presidential and party elections in Somaliland has officially ended.
Preliminary reports suggest that the presidential candidate, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), is likely to have won, while the party race is expected to see his party, Waddani, securing first place.
A total of 2,337 polling stations were used for this election, and the estimated results show that Cirro is likely to win the presidential race with 68-70% of the votes, while Muse Bihi may receive around 30-32%.
The party race is expected to see Waddani securing first place, with the newly-formed Kaah party predicted to come second. The ruling party, Kulmiye, is likely to finish in third place, closely followed by the UCID party.
Faysal Ali Warabe is expected to receive less than 1% of the presidential vote, which will likely mark his exit from the political stage, along with his party, UCID, after years of striving for success.
On the other hand, there are still around 90,000 votes remaining from the eastern regions, which could potentially alter the results of the party race. Kulmiye, in particular, might still have a chance of gaining from these votes.
The eastern regions, which were strongholds for the Waddani party alliance and the Kaah organization, saw the highest turnout for the voting, with the largest number of voters casting their ballots.
In contrast, the western regions, where the Kulmiye party had strong support, experienced a significant decrease in voter turnout, with the expected turnout dropping by nearly 50%. This change has played a significant role in determining the final results for both the parties and presidential candidates.
